JAN Awards Dinner “Partnering to Drive Change”

On Tuesday 13th December, 2016, all friends, partners, volunteers, trustees, alumni, and staff of Junior Achievement Nigeria were duly represented at the JAN 2016 Awards Dinner.

The event was aimed at honoring individuals and organisations who have made outstanding contributions to JAN over the course of the year. Our host for the evening was comedian and brand ambassador Chigul who kept the crowd on their toes and gave us a theme song! The festivities kicked off with a press conference with JAN Executive Director, Mrs Simi Nwogugu; JAN Chairman Mr. Niyi Yusuf, MD Accenture Nigeria and JAN Board Member Mr. Rufai Ladipo, CEO Agile Communications, JAN beneficiaries and select members of the press.

In attendance was Ogun State’s Commissioner for Education and Science, Mrs. Modupe Mojota, our Keynote Speaker of the night. Her words reflected her joy as JAN Volunteer and the positive impact it made on the community. She painted a vivid picture of Nigeria’s educational system, stressing the need to support Junior Achievement Nigeria . Also present at the Event were JAN Board of Directors, industry leaders and former JAN Chairman and CEO of NESG, Mr. Laoye Jaiyeola.

We had presentations from beneficiaries of JA Elementary School Program (ESP), Junior Secondary School Program (JSP, JA Company Program, and Venture in Management Program (ViMP). The Innovative Minds (2016 National Company of the Year Winners) also made a mind blowing presentation of their programmable, Dot Matrix LED display to attendees.

For us all at JAN, the events of the evening was motivation for us not to relent on every effort to reach our goal of impacting One Million students by 2020.

Before establishing Agile Communications Limited, he served as MD/CEO at STB McCann Lagos and CEO at Scanad Nigeria, demonstrating exemplary leadership in driving agency growth and profitability. He also served as Past President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria and held positions on the Council of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).

Executive Director, JA Nigeria

Ugonna is the Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, bringing a wealth of experience in youth development and educational service. His journey with JAN began as a participant in the Company Program and the Venture in Management Program (ViMP), where his leadership abilities quickly shone through. He later served as the National Company Program Manager from 2018 to 2020.

Before his current role, Ugonna held key positions at African Leadership University as the Scholarship Outreach and Partnership Manager, and at Nexford University as the B2B Partnership Manager. He began his career as a teacher at Greensprings School Lekki and Lekki Peculiar School, which ignited his passion for lifelong learning. Ugonna holds a BSc. in Industrial Chemistry from Covenant University and a Master’s in Education Leadership, Organization, and Entrepreneurship from Harvard University, with a focus on Entrepreneurship and Artificial Intelligence in the Education Marketplace.

Tobiloba Olaosun is the Marketing & Communications Manager of Junior Achievement Nigeria. She is a strategic brand and marketing expert, with over 9 years of experience in marketing, public relations, event & partnership management, and media management. Her experience in creating compelling storytelling for business growth, coordinating media campaigns, and optimizing brand visibility spans various industries including investment, media & public relations, fashion, architecture, NGO, education, banking, and insurance. Tobiloba is an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. Before her current role, she served as the Internal Communications Manager at VFD Group.

She brings over 7 years of diverse experience to her role. Her passion lies in harnessing technology and innovation to propel growth initiatives and cultivate strategic partnerships. With a strong foundation in law and a drive for positive change, she is dedicated to making a meaningful impact in her community and beyond.

Ijeoma is a dynamic, analytical and result-oriented chartered accountant with over eight (8) years of progressive managerial experience. Ijeoma has extensive knowledge in finance which includes, cash flow management, risk analysis, budgeting, cost reduction, and financial reporting. Ijeoma is results-driven and recognized for her exceptional ability to demonstrate leadership in complex operational environments. Ijeoma worked with Southwood Resources and Services Limited as the Head of Accounts/Finance before joining Junior Achievement Nigeria.

Olaolu Akogun is a Senior Programs Manager at Junior Achievement Nigeria. Olaolu is an international development expert with extensive experience in non-profit program management across the agribusiness and youth development sectors. He has a strong academic background with a Bachelors degree and 2 masters degree, which he combines with several professional training including project management, leadership, nonprofit management etc. The combination of his passion, academic background, professional training and experience has been the fueling force behind his continued success.

Aboyeji is currently the General Partner and co-founder of Future Africa, a platform that provides capital, coaching and community for mission-driven innovators. He is also the Co-founder and Chairman of Talent City Inc., a construction company.

David Uduanu is an experienced Chief Executive Officer and entrepreneurial leader with about 20 years of top management experience in the financial service sector in Nigeria. Mariam Bamgbola is the Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of Junior Achievement Nigeria. Mariam is a strong workforce skilled in project/program management, NGO management, community engagement, and content development. With over seven years of experience, she has led and participated in international and locally funded initiatives across the Health, Food, and Education social development sectors as well as drives fundraising campaigns towards the support of indigent women.  Mariam is passionate about making a positive impact and believes that every contribution no matter how little it may seem is a step towards giving hope to someone somewhere.  Before her current role, she served as Programs Coordinator at Sebeccly. 

Fatai Folarin

CEO, Deloitte Nigeria, Regional Leader, Deloitte West Africa

Fatai serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Deloitte in Nigeria and holds the position of West Africa Leader. Previously, he was the West Africa Tax Leader and Deloitte’s Global Advisory Council member. With nearly three decades of professional experience, Fatai has worked with numerous internationally renowned and locally reputable clients across various sectors. He was appointed Deputy CEO of Deloitte Nigeria in December 2015 and assumed the role of CEO and Regional Leader of Deloitte West Africa in June 2016. In his current position, Fatai is responsible for driving the firm’s strategic agenda and positioning it as a leader in the professional practice within the region. Policy and Government Relations Lead, Google West and Francophone Africa

Titi Akinsanmi is a Public Policy thought leader in the digital economy, focusing on fostering innovation. She has served as a Berkman Klein Fellow at Harvard University and is a member of various advisory and steering committees including GoodID and the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on the Digital Economy. Titi is also involved in the UNDP’s Technical Advisory Group on the 4th Industrial Revolution in Africa and serves on Nigeria’s Presidential Advisory Committee on the Digital Economy. She sits on the boards of nonprofits such as Acces Employment Canada and Junior Achievement. With over two decades of experience, Titi advises on laws and policies that bridge the public, civil, and private sectors, particularly regarding digital opportunities and regulations. She currently leads Google’s Global Policy team for AI-first products and emerging technologies.

Sopiribo Ideriah presently serves as the Group Managing Director – West Africa at SLB, leveraging his experience from prior roles within the company. With expertise spanning Oilfield, Well Logging, Deepwater, Operations Management, Risk Management, and more, Sopiribo Ideriah provides invaluable insights to the industry.

Ireti Samuel-Ogbu took on the role of MD/CEO at Citibank Nigeria Limited in September 2020, after serving as EMEA Head of Payments and Receivables, TTS, based in London. With 32 years at Citi, she held various leadership positions in the UK, Nigeria, and South Africa. Ireti is a champion of diversity and inclusion, co-founding mentorship programs and serving as EMEA co-Chair for Women’s Affinity. She’s received awards including Financial Service Leader of the Year 2019 at the Black British Business Awards and she holds a BA Hons in Accounting and Finance from Middlesex University, UK, and an MBA from the University of Bradford, UK.

She is President of ADVAN, an Honourary Member of The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, and serves on various advisory boards.

John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Media Group and CEO of Channels Television is a distinguished broadcast journalist with over four decades of experience. Before founding Channels TV in 1995, he served in various roles at Nigeria’s National Radio and Television Stations. Under his leadership, Channels TV has grown into a multi-million dollar media enterprise, defying initial skepticism. Edwin has excellent teamwork and communication skills, He is also skilled in organizational and human relations which gives him an edge while working with the Team. 

Edwin previously as the field officer with the Sickle Cell Foundation in Kano his experience not only shows his willingness to contribute to meaningful causes but also suggests he has developed resilience, empathy, and the ability to connect with diverse groups of people.

Faith Ogundele is a Programs Officer of Junior Achievement Nigeria. Faith is dedicated to creating impact through planning and implementing programs that enhance the growth and development of young people. She is self motivating, and has worked on education projects as a mentor for children in Internally Displaced Persons camps, as an administrative assistant, and interned in the Total Quality Management department, University College Hospital, Ibadan.
