The Google-inspired Africa Code Week held successfully on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Venture Gardens Group’s Vibranium Valley. It was exciting to participate in this year’s edition of the Africa Code Week for the first time, thanks to support from Google and Venture Gardens Group. Our students were taught Google’s CS first curriculum, which included how to code using Scratch (a visual programming language and computer coding game for kids). For most of the students, it was their first introduction to coding, so we were happy to see the members of the Gardens Women Network use various tactics to motivate the students to learn. We are grateful to Google, the Cape Town Science Center and the women of Venture Gardens Group for making our first Africa Code Week program a huge success! We are especially proud of our JAN Alumna, Oduolayinka Osunloye who orchestrated the partnership with the Gardens Women Network. Well done!
