Dear Friends,
2019 has been such a busy year for us that we have not been able to sit down and compose a newsletter until now. We apologize and, in this edition, give you a summary of our activities during the first quarter of 2019.
As you read in my January 20 letter, this year is our 20th anniversary year and we are excited about our goal to reach one million students this year as we celebrate twenty years of impact on June 20, 2019! I hope you have saved this date in your calendar to join us in celebrating all the wonderful stakeholders who have contributed to our success in Nigeria over the past twenty years!
As part of our celebration, we are scaling up our impact by adding new Board Members (Sigma Pensions), expanding relationships with Partners in Development (ACA Foundation, Union Bank, Central Bank of Nigeria and ACT Foundation) and highlighting the success of our alumni and volunteers. We intend to share impact stories with you throughout this year!
Part of the scaling up (#Powerof20) means we are doubling and tripling the impact of our programs. We created a ViMP Internship program to enhance the impact of our Venture in Management Program this year and we are adding a financial literacy quiz and Money Bee competition to enhance impact of our Global Money Week activities this year! I was particularly pleased to have my friend and big sister, the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, join me in the classroom on Financial Literacy Day this year — the students were over the moon to have her in their classroom for two hours sharing stories of her humble beginnings and teaching them how to save, earn and make money work for them!
As we expand partnerships in our race to reach one million students, I implore you to join us! Volunteer in a classroom, donate funds towards sponsoring a class or sponsor a seminar for young leaders at our 20th anniversary! Let us work together to empower our youth to lead Nigeria to its full potential.
Thank you for your support always!
Warm Regards,
Simi Nwogugu
