ED’S LETTER

Dear Friends,

First of all, apologies for not delivering our newsletter to you monthly as usual — we have had so many activities for our 20th anniversary year that squeezing in time to get the newsletter out on time has been challenging, to say the least!

Speaking of our 20th anniversary (whoo hoo!!!) we are really excited about all the activities lined up for the year! We have SO MANY FIRSTS this year, it is AMAZING! Our first Money Bee (our very own financial literacy equivalent of the popular Spelling Bee) occurred in May, thanks to Stanbic IBTC, which also sponsored our first electronic quiz competition, MoNie-Pedia. Thank you Stanbic!  And thank you to our expert judges and amazing staff, who pulled off the vision perfectly in less than one month!!!

On June 20, we invite you to participate in our FIRST break the Internet initiative as we go viral with our #IAMJAN campaign — yes, do please share with us how you support youth development, youth entrepreneurship, financial literacy, digital literacy and getting youth better prepared for the workplace. Or are you a young entrepreneur creating change in your community? Or simply share your JAN story — are you an alum, a Board Member, a teacher, volunteer or just a friend of Simi’s??? LOL. All stories are welcome. Just hold up a card that says #IAMJAN, take a photo of yourself, tell us your story and end it with hashtags #IAMJAN and #JANat20. You may qualify for a gift if you get a lot of likes!

On October 4, we invite you to attend our FIRST youth leadership conference! Join us as we work with leaders in the public and private sectors to develop an agenda for the youth and future of Nigeria. Panelists will include the Vice President of Nigeria and our very own Board Member, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, so you definitely do NOT want to miss this. We will also have Master Classes delivered by world class experts in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, technology for business and creative arts.  Watch out for registration information in our next newsletter and sign up quickly as slots will fill up FAST!

Between June 20 and October 4, there will be several other FIRSTS as we race to reach one million students in Nigeria before the end of the year. Raise your hand to be part of history as we hope to celebrate reaching the one millionth student before the end of this year and all contributors will be recognized at our Awards Dinner. Don’t miss out! Get involved — teach a class, sponsor a class or donate equipment to support a class.

As you can tell by all the exclamation marks in this newsletter, something really exciting is going on at JAN so I invite you to be part of it all. I look forward to seeing your #IAMJAN post and reading your story — please tag me at @favoredSN on Instagram and @favoredSSN on Twitter so that I can like it!

Thank you for your support always!

Warm Regards,

Simi Nwogugu
