SUMMER CAMP 1.0: JAN ORGANIZES FIRST EVER BE ENTREPRENEURIAL SUMMER CAMP FOR TEENS

Junior Achievement Nigeria commenced its very first entrepreneurship summer camp which took place from July 15th – 19th at the Facebook NG_Hub in Lagos. Aimed at encouraging young students to be entrepreneurial and socially responsible, the weeklong program exposed participants to leadership workshops that included various topics such as emotional intelligence, design thinking, goal setting and ethics. The camp included trips to a destitute home in Yaba coordinated by Agatha Obiageli Aghedo Memorial Foundation and to a technology company, Andela which was coordinated by JAN alumnus Rotimi Okungbaye.

The program also featured experts from the field of technology, sports, finance and business who spent their time volunteering to inspire the students. Whilst Koye Sowemimo, Managing Director of Temple Sports, encouraged the students to pursue their talents, Efunbolanle Hughes of IBM led the participants in a design thinking workshop. Ashim Egunjobi from Bake for Change Nigeria also spent some time with the teens encouraging them to embrace mastery, autonomy and purpose in being motivated to pursue their goals. An online safety class was also taught by Nissi Madu from Co-Creation Hub Nigeria, and finally, our JAN alumnus and CEO of Enyo Retail, Yomi Awobokun wrapped up the event by charging participants to develop  good listening habits regardless of their passions and interests.

As with all JAN events which require funding and in-kind sponsorship to thrive, the summer camp would not have been possible without our sponsors – Facebook who provided us with the space and supplies for the participants, Co-Creation Hub, Maggi Nigeria, Golden Morn Nigeria, Andela and Nestle who supported the implementation of the camp.

Here’s to more summer camps in the future!
