2021 Regional Company of the Year (RCOY) Competition

Every thriving business saw that pain point the masses were experiencing and brought about solutions that the community, nation or world desperately needed. The beautiful thing about creating business solutions that will both birth impact and profit is that it is not limited to the old. Young people can be change agents and JA Nigeria the Company Program helps is a testament to this fact. 

 

In the months of June, July and August, different regions had their student company present their company product and compete with other students in their region. From the Lagos region, we went From 17 Student Companies to 3 winners and 1 champion! The top three winners of the 2021 Regional Company of the Year (RCOY) competition, Lagos hailed from –  Electic Minds student company, Liberty Bells School who produced ultraviolet light that kills germs; 2nd runner up was the Artisan student company from Igbobi School who produced an app that connects artisans to clients. They also clinched the CSR award and finally we had the 1st runner up and our champion from Sonic Informatic student company, Heritage Academy Global Secondary School, Ikorodu who produced a device that collects waste and also improves the quality of the environment.

Journeying to the city of Ibadan and ranging from the champion level, Nexus Queen student company from Queens School emerged the overall winner with their Ottoman made from waste; International School, University of Ibadan (ISI), clinched the first runner-up position; they produced an automated security alarm system called Spiky and Young Innovators student company from Seed of Life College was awarded 2nd runner up; they produced a Hybrid Backpack with an inbuilt detachable power bank. Nexus Queens School and ISI will be representing Ibadan at the 2021 National Company of the Year (NCOY) competition.

Over to the results from the land of promise; Akwa Ibom. KereTerra student company from Secondary School, Etoi emerged the overall winner. They produced bags, key holders and seats made from waste. Spade student company from Topfaith Schools clinched the first runner-up position. They produced clothing from cotton while Best Brain student company from GTC, Abak came third with their production on their security alarm bulb. 

From Jos, we had JA Stars Company from TCNN Secondary School as the champion; they produced decorative materials from waste bottle and atili seed; Amazing Inventors student company from GSS, Tudun Wada emerged 1st runner up with their security detector and The Rising Star student company from Rhema Ville Academy clinched the 2nd runner up position, they produced an app called COVID manual. The JA Stars student company will be representing Jos at the National Company of the Year competition.

From Abuja, we had Amazing Amazon Company of Government Girls Secondary School, Abaj-Abuja who emerged as the winner and also doubled as the best in the Corporate Social Responsibility Project; Young Achievers Company of Government Science Technical College, Kwali-Abuja  came second position and Zenmac Company of Hendon College, Karu-Abuja came took the third place
