One of our highly anticipated events, the National Company of the Year (NCOY) Competition for the JA Company Program, took place on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. This event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of First Bank of Nigeria Limited and Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN).
The NCOY competition is an annual competition that unites the winners of the Regional Company of the Year (RCOY) competition. These champions converge to compete for the prestigious NCOY award, with the ultimate aim of representing Nigeria on the African stage at the Africa Company of the Year (ACOY) competition.
The student companies participating in the competition showcased their entrepreneurial prowess by presenting innovative projects and accomplishments. A panel of judges, featuring Omojo E. Adefila, Adija Uzodinma, Ronke Adeyinka, EbunoIuwa Bolodeoku, and Temitope Okunnu, evaluated these companies based on their creativity, financial management, teamwork, and dedication to corporate social responsibility. The primary criterion was the successful integration of these factors to generate profit, and following careful assessment, a winner was chosen.
From the 13 student companies represented at the 13 different regions in Nigeria, the National Company of the Year 2023 title was claimed by the Sustainable Future Advocate Company (SFAC) from Kosofe Senior College in Lagos. Their projects included plantain peel briquettes as a cooking gas alternative, shoes made from discarded plastic rings, and brooms crafted from repurposed plastic bottles. SFAC will proudly represent Nigeria at the upcoming Africa Company of the Year event in Rwanda.
We’re looking forward to ACOY 2023 and we’re eager to see the innovative ideas these talented young minds will present. Which country will be crowned the Africa Company of the Year for 2023?
