NATIONAL COMPANY OF THE YEAR PROGRAM (NCOY)

NATIONAL COMPANY OF THE YEAR PROGRAM

ABOUT THE EVENT

Junior Achievement Nigeria’s (JAN) annual flagship event, National Company of the Year Competition (NCOY), is an annual event that brings the winners of the JA Company Program Regional Competitions across Nigeria together to compete for the National Company of the Year Award. The national winner will then proceed to represent Nigeria against other JA Africa member-nation companies. At NCOY, JA student companies present the results of their enterprise with evidence of innovation, financial stewardship, teamwork and corporate social responsibility to a panel of independent judges who have the difficult task of selecting one winner who has successfully combined all of the above and made some profit. JAN students must demonstrate a holistic understanding of the company’s performance as a business and as a corporate citizen, a recognition of challenges and how they overcame them, and an awareness of the need to develop solutions that will impact their generation as future leaders.

The components of the competition include student presentations (both on stage and in trade booths), submission of financials in an Annual Report and defense against tough questions posed by the judges.  Whether or not they win, all participants gain the valuable skill of presenting to potential business funders as well as sharpening their public speaking and critical thinking skills.
