FINANCIAL LITERACY

Junior Achievement Nigeria in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and financial institutions across Nigeria come together to celebrate Global Money Week with an annual Financial Literacy Day (FLD) event. Global Money Week is a worldwide celebration held in March to empower the next generation to be confident, money-savvy global citizens. The event is held concurrently in selected schools across the nation to promote a financially literate generation. Financial  Institutions come together and mentor JA Nigeria participants on Financial Literacy Modules created by JA Nigeria.

This special program is designed to mark World Savings Day in secondary schools in collaboration with banks across Nigeria. Through this initiative, we aim to educate students about cultivating a healthy savings habit, making wise financial decisions, effective budgeting, and using their resources to support others to the best of their ability

Cha-Ching is a financial literacy program designed for students in primary two to six, to instill money management concepts such as Earn, Save, Spend, and Donate in their learning curriculum through engaging lessons and animated videos. The program not only emphasizes economic and social studies content, but also focuses on finance, mathematics, planning, and analytical skills. This comprehensive approach supports a positive attitude as students explore and enhance their money-management skills. The competition aspect of the program (Moneybee) complements the Cha-Ching financial literacy program by assessing the level of mastery students have attained through the program and testing their knowledge bank.

ENTREPRENURESHIP

JA Company Program teaches Senior Secondary School students how to start and run their own business, develop a product or service, and market their brand with the support of a volunteer. In this JA flagship program, students come together to form a company, choose a business name, and elect company officers to oversee the operations of the company for the program duration. It teaches students to put theory into practice to understand what entrepreneurship is about. The students conduct market research and develop a business plan, raise capital by selling shares of stock, decide on what to produce and produce it, market and sell their products, keep proper financial records, pay dividends to investors, and use ten percent (10%) of their profit for Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR). At the end of the program, the students who complete the program successfully and submit an annual report to JA Nigeria will qualify for a regional competition and the best student company from each region will represent their school in the National Company of the Year (NCOY) competition in Lagos. The winning school will go on to represent Nigeria in the Africa Company of the Year (ACOY) competition. The Company Program is currently sponsored by PMIEF, ACT Foundation and Boeing.

JA Deep is an online-based interactive entrepreneurship curriculum, created specifically for young African learners, including those who live in countries or go to schools where JA is not present. JA DEEP builds on JA’s existing entrepreneurship programs (JA Company Program and JA ITS  TYME) in an online format that teaches the same principles in an engaging and fun way. The program allows the learners to experience the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship by walking them through how to start and operate a business that fills a need or solves a problem in their communities. JA Deep is currently sponsored by JA Africa.

Venture in Management Program is an annual program of Junior Achievement Nigeria since 2000. ViMP is designed as a one-week intensive mini-MBA session to introduce selected members of the National Youth Service Corps to the different facets of managing a business, making crucial business decisions, and developing skills for General Management. ViMP prepares NYSC members for the world of business with a week-long program that includes rigorous and stimulating classroom meetings [led by the Lagos  Business School faculty members], guest lecturers, case studies, panel discussions, study groups, culminating in a strategy workshop, during which the participants present solutions to different business problems. ViMP is currently sponsored by Parthian Partners, GB Foods, and Mastercard.

The JA LABS-Developing Young Entrepreneurs Program is a 10-week-long educational and vocational skills acquisition program designed for individuals in underserved communities, that teaches entrepreneurial and vocational skills. It trains and supports its participants on the theoretical essentials of being a successful entrepreneur as well as the practical and hands-on vocational skills required to start a real business.

The Be Entrepreneurial Program is a secondary school-based program designed to equip young people with the knowledge and abilities needed to succeed as entrepreneurs and problem solvers. This program goes beyond traditional education by encouraging participants to see obstacles as opportunities, encouraging them to become positive influences in their communities. Be Entrepreneurial aims to instil innovation, resilience, and an entrepreneurial spirit in the students.

We deliver this session by introducing participants to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, offering practical knowledge and interactive exercises to ignite the entrepreneurial spark, covering everything from ideation to business operations.

PROJECT R.I.S.E, is a leadership program designed to empower and equip young secondary school boys with the necessary skills and mindset to become responsible, inspired, skilled, and excellent leaders in their communities and beyond. This program fosters personal growth, leadership abilities, and a strong sense of responsibility among young boys through a combination of interactive workshops, mentorship, skill-building activities, and community engagement.

Food-A-Thon is a program dedicated to addressing the global issue of food waste. This initiative, focusing on decreasing hunger and promoting sustainability, unites businesses, communities, and individuals in a bid to tackle food waste on a massive scale.

Food-A-Thon is dedicated to increasing public awareness of the consequences that food waste poses to our environment. To achieve this, we use competitions and educational campaigns to offer innovative solutions for the reduction of waste, encouraging moderate consumption, and helping consumers make wise decisions.

The “Young Voices For a Sustainable Future – Innovation Challenge” is a program for secondary schools. It provides the next generation with the tools they need to address climate issues creatively. Through this challenge, participants are encouraged to consider creative methodologies while nurturing enthusiasm for environmental sustainability to promote advocacy and instil in them an increased responsibility for a more sustainable future.

We are open to ideas from various disciplines in the Innovation Challenge, encouraging an interdisciplinary approach to solving climate-related problems. All viewpoints are valued in the process of creating comprehensive and successful solutions, regardless of whether they are based on science, technology, design, or social innovation.

The Children’s Day event is a program created to acknowledge, value, and elevate the extraordinary capabilities and potential that children embody. The Children’s Day Event is a program in celebration of Children’s Day. 

At JA Nigeria, we believe every child is unique. We create memorable activities that feature competitions and prizes that bring smiles to their faces. Our Children’s Day event provides an opportunity to show how much we treasure, love and value them as we create fun memories with them. It’s a fun-filled day that includes workshops, debates, and other activities.

The Entrepreneurial Skill Pass Program is an assessment-based program designed to evaluate and improve the entrepreneurial aptitude of students. This program, which functions as a thorough entrepreneurship test, provides students with an exceptional opportunity to assess their entrepreneurial abilities, pinpoint areas for development, and obtain insightful feedback to support their future entrepreneurial growth. We adopt a standardized assessment tool to advance entrepreneurial education in secondary schools.

The Global Entrepreneurship Week is an orientation program aimed at building a spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation. In addition to offering insightful information about the business ecosystem and motivating attendees to start their own ventures, this program acts as a forum for inspiring, educating, and connecting budding entrepreneurs. Several engaging seminars covering integral aspects of entrepreneurship are also included in the program.

Safe Online is designed to introduce teenagers aged 14-17 to the concept of digital security through fun and interactive learning materials, thereby empowering them with the skills to stay safe as they surf through the internet. It is aimed at enlightening students with the necessary Internet safety skills, such as a thorough knowledge of privacy settings, password security, managing online presence, public WiFi safety, social media sharing, nurturing healthy relationships online, and other precautions for online safety.

The TechUp4Girls  program is a  JA Nigeria tech inclusion program that serves as an inspiration and training platform for young girls aged 13-19, encouraging them to pursue careers in technology. The program introduces participants to engaging areas such as cybersecurity, computer programming, and other technology-based career paths. In collaboration with Lion Head Global Partners, TechUp4Girls not only fosters early interest in these fields but also instills confidence by providing them with the necessary knowledge, and skills. Through a STEM-focused approach, the program equips these young girls to make a lasting impact in their communities and lives.

The Google Certificate Programs offered through JAN (Junior Achievement Nigeria) provide an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain valuable skills and credentials in various in-demand fields. These courses are designed to give participants real-world knowledge and practical experience, improving their preparedness for entry-level positions in business and technology.

The certificate program operates an industry-based curriculum, hand-picked by Google experts in project management, cybersecurity, and UI/UX, and empowers participants with skills that are immediately applicable to the current demands in the business and tech landscape.

The HP Coding Program is a program aimed at providing under-served school children, aged 11 to 19, the chance to learn and become familiar with the use of technology. Through participation in a three-day boot camp, the students learn the foundational elements of Python programming language. The primary objective of the HP Coding Program is to reduce the technological gap between students who lack access to technological resources and skills. With digital literacy as one of our core pillars, we teach students programming so they can use it to solve problems in their communities.

WORK READINESS

Started in 2001, the Leadership, Empowerment, Achievement, and Development (LEAD) Camp is a flagship program by JA Nigeria, focused on developing young girls across the country. The program features interactive workshops, panel sessions, and skill-building activities to encourage and empower young girls to become the leaders of tomorrow, leading to their economic and social empowerment. Over the years, the program has offered valuable learning opportunities to students from experienced facilitators across diverse industries, including Banking, IT, Health, and the Public sector. 

During LEAD Camp, students get the opportunity to be coached by experienced mentors who guide them through their final presentations, where they have the chance to win prizes. Through LEAD Camp, we inspire and empower young girls to dream big, commit to achieving their goals and become leaders in their chosen careers.

Career Readiness is a program by JA Nigeria designed to equip individuals with the essential skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the dynamic and competitive world of work. This program focuses on preparing participants for successful transitions from academia to the professional landscape, and it is open to undergraduates, fresh graduates and secondary school students.

The LEAD Career Program is an exciting empowerment program designed to help secondary school students reach their full potential and steer them toward a boundless future. This ground-breaking program sponsored by Total Energies in partnership with JA Nigeria aims to provide young people with the inspiration, and knowledge they need to launch into the workforce with courage and confidence.

Students who participate in the Lead Career Program gain insight into the choice of careers to make, current market trends, and success-oriented competencies.

Her Time 2 Lead program by JA Nigeria is an empowerment program designed to give young women the knowledge, abilities, and self-assurance they need to assume leadership positions across a range of industries. This program prioritizes encouraging inclusivity and diversity in leadership roles in addition to women’s empowerment.

Her Time 2 Lead emphasizes the value of inclusive leadership, ensuring that women from all backgrounds can access leadership opportunities through inclusive organizational structures with specialized training sessions to prepare them for leadership.

The Ethical Leadership School program is a work readiness program that focuses on nurturing ethical decision-making, character development, communication, and collaboration skills in students. By instilling integrity, empathy, and social responsibility, we aim to nurture a new generation of leaders who can positively impact their communities and society at large.

Complementing the Ethical Leadership School, the Career Success Program equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the modern job market successfully. Through engaging modules and experiential activities, students develop critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and work prioritization skills. They also gain insight into high-growth industries, learn effective job-hunting techniques, and understand the importance of personal branding.

 

The JA Nigeria Ethical Leadership School and Career Success Program offer a holistic approach to equip high school students with the skills, values, and mindset necessary for ethical leadership and successful careers. By combining the principles of ethical decision-making, character development, communication, collaboration, and career readiness, we aim to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of Nigerian youth, their communities, and the wider society.

The Girls in STEM Program is an empowerment program dedicated to inspiring and empowering young girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The goal of this program is to inspire girls to see the possibilities of pursuing careers in STEM, break gender barriers, and empower them with the tools they need to succeed in the evolving field of innovation and technology.

In addition to offering girls the chance to network with accomplished women in STEM fields, we offer lively and engaging workshops. Female role models encourage participants to envision and pursue diverse STEM career paths by sharing their experiences, struggles, and victories.

WiSTEM2D is a work readiness program dedicated to promoting inclusivity and excellence for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Manufacturing, and Design. It encourages women to pursue careers in traditionally male-dominated fields and steadily closes the gender gap by encouraging creativity, influencing career selection, and enabling women to succeed in STEM fields.
