The National Challenge: JA Nigeria Partners with Junior Achievement WorldWide and BASF to Empower Young People for a Sustainable Future

August was a month of transformation and collaboration as we joined forces with BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, and Junior Achievement Worldwide to drive positive change in Nigeria’s youth. Together, we embarked on the second edition of the National Innovation Challenge on Young Voices for a Sustainable Future. This initiative focused on empowering underrepresented youth aged 15 to 20 to address the local impact of climate change and propose innovative solutions within their communities.

The National Challenge, which took place on  29th August,  2023 brought together eight exceptional student teams from different regions, carefully selected through a rigorous workshop process. These young innovators showcased their groundbreaking ideas and solutions before an esteemed panel of independent judges. The competition’s aim was not only to encourage innovative thinking but also to evaluate the viability and implementation potential of their concepts across various aspects.

As a testament to the remarkable dedication of these young minds, the winning team from the National Challenge, Eco-Life Company, with their products; Filtron, a device fixed on drainages to stop wastes and plastics from blocking them, thereby preventing flooding, and Fishing basket, a colorful and long-lasting fishing net made from plastics will have the honor of representing Nigeria at the Virtual Global Exchange Program. This international platform will facilitate the exchange of ideas, insights, and collaborative efforts with peers from around the world, united in their resolve to combat climate change and promote just transitioning.

This collaborative effort aligns perfectly with our mission at Junior Achievement Nigeria, as we continue to equip young minds with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a global economy. We applaud BASF, Junior Achievement Worldwide, and all participants for their commitment to shaping a sustainable and prosperous future for young people.
